plot
England is on the verge of war with Spain and Queen Elizabeth I sends for
Sir Francis Drake in an attempt to prevent all-out war between the two
countries. The two are obviously incredibly keen on each other as they
flirt shamelessly until the sudden interruption of King Philip of Spain,
who plans to marry Elizabeth and thus keep the peace. Later in the episode
Lord Essex arrives victorious from war in the Low Countries. However, much
to his chagrin, he discovers that Drake has taken hi place as the Queens
favourite. Livid, he sets out on a course to besmirch Drake's reputation.
review
Memorable for being Hattie and Sid's last appearance in anything that
would be labelled Carry On. They should have been given something better
to bow out with than this. From this point in, the series manages to get
worse. Only the Lord Peter Flimsey episodes offer any entertainment value,
and there's not much in them either.
